this is a product of several interests, as usual. when i was younger i wanted to be a filmmaker. a vague likeness to robert deniro and an obsession with martin scorsese and other 60s and 70s college filmmakers did not help .but after a while i realised the shortcomings of these movies ,i grew up and they didnt . i discovered some nearly perfect films . film noir. shortish ,concise (but vague), ambiguous and visceral . le samurai isaw when in college in dublin . one hour and twenty minutes of noir. i likey a lot. not to much talking not too much explanation and brevity. nearly perfect . then about 2 weeks l8r i saw point blank. the next day isaw it again and again . the lighthouse arthouse cinema on middle abbey street .the best place in the world for a callow impressionable youth . in your face cinema (there were only about 20 seats ). i wanted my 93 grand . the styling of this movie left an impression thats hard to decipher . ive tried to but with time i realise i dont want to decipher it . it melted into me .
since then life has taken twists and turns to get me to where i am now . music and movies and love and kids and drink and messing and growing up and tings. learning is good but doing it is better. if you dont do you dont learn . if you dont make mistakes you dont learn and boy did i make mistakes.
twists and turns led me to furniture . making things led me to a state of contentment and understanding . all the while ingesting different methods, different styles and different concepts .
i found that i kept being drawn to bauhaus. bauhaus . a way of living very much of its time but far reaching in its influence . it was simply that i liked the way their furniture and architecture lookded . from bauhaus to your house via scandanavia . more anon
